One of the first restaurants we were introduced to was Annie’s. Annie’s is a Chinese pizza place. Pretty good pizzas (though I have found a much better place much closer now) and as you can see, they deliver in rain, snow or smog.
Now, I could understand why the first two might be necessary to advertise, but I had no idea what I was in for when it came to smog. We don’t have snow days at school, we have smog days. And on these days, the kids are not allowed outside and all the windows have to be closed. The school nurse gives us a daily weather forecast that tells us what kind of outside play is allowed.
The days that we do not have smog are called Blue Sky days and they are gorgeous beyond compare. The sky is endless and the air is cool and fresh and umbrellas pop up everywhere in every imaginable colour and shape giving a carnival atmosphere to an ordinary day.
But, thank god for the delivery service here. There are days that it feels like winter even though the air-con is on and to move is to bathe in your own sweat.
I’ll tell you about the better pizza place another time…
