On a lighter note…

Here is a little collection of oddities that I encountered on our tour of Inner Mongolia.  They are in no particular order and have no particular meaning, I just got a kick out them:

The texture of the wallpaper in all of the eating houses we patronised was extraordinary.  Most of it was a rich, shiny gold and all of the wallpapers had please-touch-me textures.  They must have been a good 4mm thick.  The ceiling decoration was not a one off.  In all the hotels and restaurants we ate, and we ate a range of places from nice hotels to grungy street restaurants, had some form of decoration on the ceiling.  Even the school did as well.

But I think Chinese like wallpaper.  My flat is decked out in it – though mine looks like it used to coat the walls of a smoking den.  It is nicotine-stained yellow.  But that’s a story for another day.
