Why you should go to the beauty parlour

Today, in preparation for my jaunt down to Shanghai, I went to the beauty salon to get my nails painted:

You can’t quite see it, but the polish is all glittery and party-ready.

Anyway, the point of this little blog is to let you know why you should go to the beauty parlour: you can learn all sorts of wonderful things.  Like this: a lady was sitting next to me on the plush couches talking to the tiny little poodle named Chi Chi (not sure if that is correct spelling, but it means Tiny in Chinese and she is tiny and sooo cute) and we got talking, her in her broken English, me in my nonexistent Chinese, and we were talking about holidays and the like and she told me that  the red lanterns that delight me so are to celebrate the Moon Festival which happens in this same week as National Day.

I get the sneaky feeling that efficiency was on the mind of the government when they decreed this one week holiday.

Anyway, get yourself off the salon, have something lovely done and learn a little about what’s going on around you!

Off to eat some Moon Cake.
